The Android Nougat or the Android 7.0 is the latest version of Google’s smart operating system – Android. It was recently releases on 22nd August and is being currently rolled out to all the Nexus devices. This new OS introduces notable changes and enhancements to the original operating system.

There are a number of new features that can impact Android apps development and Android app templates designs.

Let’s take a look at the new features in detail:

  • Android Nougat introduces the new split screen display mode. In this mode, you can conveniently split the screen area between two apps.
  • You can reply to notifications without having to actually open the app to reply.
  • Quick switching between two most recently used apps by simply double tapping the overview button.
  • The doze power savings mechanism is expanded to include a state activated when the device is running on battery and the screen has been off for a period of time, but is not stationary.
  • The Nougat was designed to switch to JRE (Java Runtime Environment) from the defunct Apache Harmony.
  • In this new version of the Android Operating System, there were several changes made to harden the media stack against future vulnerabilities.


  • Security was further tightened by introducing various mechanisms to reduce the possibility of malicious code being injected and executed inside the Linux kernel.
  • There were several enhancements to the graphics capabilities.
  • The nougat was designed with immersive experiences and included support for Vulkan TM which is an advanced 3D rendering API and Daydream which is Google’s mobile virtual reality platform.
  • The platform provides features to customize and personalize your smartphone and give it a unique look.
  • There are over 1500 emojis to express yourself!

Overall, Android 7.0 or the Nougat provides users with an excellent new platform to work with and developers and designers have begun testing their apps development skills for this platform already!
